This post has the aim to provide a game to know better our classmates in a primary English classroom.
What is…… wearing?
Age: 7 years old 3rd of
primary school
Organization of the classroom and management
We are going to group the class in a big circle and
then in smaller ones. We need to go to the gym or to the patio.
Aims:
- To recognize different vocabulary related to
clothes
- To formulate correctly the question “what colour
is X ?”
- To develop concentration and memory.
- To foster oral skills.
- To get to know each other better.
Contents
- Colours.
- Clothing and possessive pronouns: My, his / her.
- Present simple, and present continuous.
- Yes/ no questions and short answers.
Material and resources
- A Handkerchief.
- Children´s clothes. If the children are wearing a uniform, we
will draw a picture in advance representing some simple costumes, and each
pupil shows it to the others when necessary.
Procedure
Firstly,
the teacher sets the students sitting in a big circle. Afterwards, the teacher
will ask them to focus on their mate´s clothes by asking them to have a good
look at what their mates are wearing.
Secondly, one of the students comes to the
centre of the circle. Afterwards, with a
handkerchief on their eyes, he or she will be asked about some of their mate´s
clothes. What colour is Tania´s pullover?
etc. The student in the middle can make another question instead of answering
directly: Is Tania´s pullover green?
etc, and the whole group will answer: yes it is, or no, it isn’t.
If the child in the middle guesses the correct
colour, the one who was asked the question takes his/her position and the game starts
again. The teacher can take part in the game if necessary and can be asked
about one of his/her pupils. We can use other expressions such as What is Pepe wearing?
We can do
the same in smaller groups in order to let all the students participate. When the
one in the middle finishes the task, he/ she will move on to other groups. And
all the groups will do the same.
Assessment
We are going to evaluate and assess not only the
correctness but also the pronunciation.
